IGOR FIORINI

Rome, 1974.

Composer, flautist, sound engineer, sound producer, designer and consultant for audio product companies. He is the founder and sound master of VDM SOUND GROUP, a rich and varied business reality in the world of audio and music. He is one of the greatest Italian experts in sound direction and high definition audio recordings.

He studied at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome and at the Alfredo Casella Conservatory in L’Aquila, where he graduated in composition and flute.

His teachers were Luciano Pelosi, Alessandro Sbordoni, Salvatore Lombardi, Giampio Mastrangelo.

Over the years he has combined his artistic commitment with other activities that see him involved in numerous projects that link music, sound and technology, in Italy and abroad.

This activity includes musical productions for Sir. Antonio Pappano, for the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro and sound engineering & production projects for the Lebanese soprano and composer Hiba Al Kawas.

He regularly collaborates as a sound director with some of the main Italian musical realities from Radio 3 to RAI Trade, from the IUC-Istituzione Universitaria Concerti of Rome, to the Academy of Santa Cecilia and many others.

In 2020 he took part in the inauguration of the new Genoa bridge, taking care of the audio project.

He is the founder of the record label VDM High End Records and of SlowSound, a cultural movement born to promote conscious and quality listening.

He has been a teacher of recording and mastering techniques at the Saint Louis College of Music in Rome and at the Istituto Musicale G. Paisiello in Taranto and is the author and protagonist of several articles published in specialized and sector magazines Sound&Light - ProSoundNewsEurope - Headliner.

As a sound director and producer he has also collaborated with Sir James Galway, Mariss Jansons, Anna Netrebko, Sarah Chang, Viktoria Mullova, Angelika Kirchschlager, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Andrea Griminelli, Elina Garanˇca, Gautier Capuçon, Renaud Capuçon, Emmanuel Pahud, Erwin Schrott, Bernarda Fink, José Cura and countless other artists.

TODAY

He carries out his entrepreneurial activities to give impetus to the VDM SOUND GROUP and professional activities as a sound director with primary Italian and foreign institutions. He is also an exclusive importer and distributor of primary audio brands at an international level.

2018-2021

In 2019, VDM Sound Group further expands its related business by opening the spaces of HiFi Roma Store, a new concept store dedicated to High Fidelity and listening to music, and together with other audio-loving friends, he coined the term SlowSound, which, taking up the slow philosophy of sound, aims to promote conscious and quality listening.

CO-PRODUCER

In 2020 he is Sound co-producer of the album Richard Strauss - Ein Heldenleben & Burleske, for piano and orchestra -Orchestra from National Academy of Santa Cecilia - Antonio Pappano, conductor - Bertrand Chamayou, piano - Warner Classics.

CONSULTANCY AND COLLABORATION

Also in 2020, he signed a consultancy and collaboration agreement with Umbria Jazz for VDM SOUND GROUP and was sound director for the Live Streaming of the concert for the inauguration of the new Genoa bridge with the Santa Cecilia Orchestra.

SOUND DIRECTOR

In the two-year period 2020-2021 he is editor and sound director of the 2020/2021 season for the live streaming and recording of the Santa Cecilia Orchestra.

CONSULTANCY AND COLLABORATION

Between 2020 and 2021 he curated the sound project of Building Sights, a multimedia project promoted by the We Build Group with images taken by photographer Edoardo Montaina.

2013-2017

In 2013 he was a technical engineer and specialist for the musical productions of Sir Antonio Pappano with the Orchestra of National Academy of Santa Cecilia (Sacred Verdi, music by G. Verdi - Warner Classic 2013, Petite Messe Solemnelle music by G. Rossini - EMI 2013). He is still in charge of the design and planning of the recording systems of the Academy of Santa Cecilia.

Also in 2013 he was a consultant and designer for ISG Industrial in Taiwan and for IPC Chassis dedicated to Audio/Video computers and workstations.

CONSULTANT E DESIGNER

CONSULTANT, SOUND DIRECTOR E PRODUCER

From 2013 to 2017 he was a musical consultant, sound director and producer for the Euro-Radio live broadcasts and recordings of the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro.

LIVE STREAMING CONSULTANT

From 2014 to 2015 he was a musical consultant for the live streaming video recording of the Concert of the National Orchestra from Santa Cecilia conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano for the “Pappanoinweb” series and for the Euroclassical concert series.

AUDIO DIRECTION

Also in the two-year period 2014-2015 he took care of the audio direction and was the sound director of the television program “Inventare il tempo” by Sandro Cappelletto, directed by Angelo Bozzolini, broadcast for two seasons on RAI5

Since 2014 he has collaborated with Luca Giannerini for the research, promotion and development of live concerts in high definition, technology that they bring to the public in the concert seasons of Gino Paoli & Danilo Rea.

RESEARCH, PROMOTION AND DEVELOPMENT

In 2015 he was the sound producer of the CD of M. Ramin Bahrami created with the soloists from National Academy of Santa Cecilia, Offerta Musicale by J.S. Bach (DECCA 481 2102).

PRODUCER AND CREATOR

PRODUCTION

He curated the entire CD production of the Stradivari Sextet, composed of soloists from the Orchestra of Academy of Santa Cecilia, Schönberg’s “Verklärte Nacht” and Tchaikovsky’s “Souvenir de Florence”.

2011-2012

In 2011, VDM Sound Group expanded its activities with the VDM Audio Brands area, which exclusively imports prestigious professional audio and high fidelity brands and deals with consultancy and promotion in both sectors.

VDM AUDIO DESIGN

In 2012 VDM Sound Group opened a further area of ​​activity with VDM Audio Design and with some excellent collaborators put into practice some of its design ideas developed over the years of experience and designed and built, first for Giulio Cesare Ricci (Foné Records), production and distribution systems for recording and listening in high definition. In particular the QuaverGold Signoricci Workstations, the range

will later expand with the System24 and System25 which are adopted both in the professional field with some versions and in the high fidelity field.

Also in 2012 he designed systems for acoustic treatment and planned some spaces both in Italy and abroad, first of all the Paolo Ketof Sound Laboratory of the Accademy of Santa Cecilia.

DESIGN FOR ITALY AND ABROAD

2008-2010

In 2009 he supervised the recording and post-production of the DVDs of the opera Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District (RAI TRADE) and of Il “Turco in Italia” by G. Rossini (RAI TRADE) at the Carlo Felice theatre in Genoa.

SOUND PRODUCER & SOUND ENGINEER

In 2010 he became Sound Producer & Sound Engineer in the recording of the album with the Wiener Concert-Verein with music by Bellafronte.

In the same year he participated as Sound Director in the concerts of Hiba Al Kawas for the WISE World Innovation Summit for Education in Dhoa for the Qatar Foundation and for the World Urban Forum in Rio de Janeiro.

2003-2007

He collaborates with Nuova Consonanza as a Sound Engineer for recordings and live concerts.

FOUNDER OF ALEANOVA GROUP

In 2004, with the improvisation group AleaNova, of which he is one of the founders, he performed at the Nuova Consonanza Festival in Rome, playing music by Ennio Morricone.

RAI PROGRAM DIRECTOR

From 2004 to 2007 he collaborated with RAI as a program director and created numerous programmes for the IV and V Radio RAI channels.

In 2005, a monographic programme focusing on his chamber music compositions was dedicated to him on the third channel of Radio RAI and on the fifth channel of Filodiffusione.

Also in 2004 he began a collaboration with the ORT-Orchestra Regionale Toscana which continued until 2013 where he was producer and sound engineer of the recordings of the seasons and the Broadcast transmissions.

FOUNDER VDM HIGH END RECORDS RECORD LABEL

He founded the independent label VDM High End Records which continues its activity by promoting and researching High Definition recordings and experimenting and developing different recording techniques.

THE COLLABORATIVE LABEL

The label, in collaboration with the main publishing houses in the sector (ed. Suvini Zerboni - Sugarmusic S.P.A., RaiTrade, Ricordi) is active in the production and promotion of contemporary culture and music, promoting knowledge and listening to the best artistic sensibilities of today (Alessandro Sbordoni, Sylvano Bussotti, Gregoretti/Cagli, Mosca/Melega, Fernando Mencherini, Paolo Arcà, Luca Lombardi, Festival PlayIt).

Also in 2005 he began a collaboration that lasted until 2010 as Sound Producer and Sound Engineer for numerous records in the Rai TRADE Contemporanea catalogue.

SOUND PRODUCER & SOUND ENGINEER

From 2006 to 2013, as Producer and Sound Engineer for Radio 3, he took care of recordings and live broadcasts for dozens of concerts throughout Italy.

From 2007 to 2019 he collaborated as Sound Producer and Sound Engineer for the recordings, broadcasts and live sounds of the IUC-Istituzione Universitaria Concerti of Rome.

SOUND DIRECTOR & CONSULTANT

Also in 2007 and until 2008 he was Sound Director of the Cortona Sun Festival as well as responsible and consultant for broadcast and recordings as Sound Producer of the ADTA 5th Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Festival.

1997-2002

He started his entrepreneurial activity (1997).

FOUNDER VD MUSIC SCHOOL AND FALAUT MAGAZINE

In 1999 he opened the VD Music School, a music school still active today, and is one of the founding members of the quarterly magazine FALAUT, directed by Salvatore Lombardi and considered by international critics to be among the most complete and interesting to have appeared on the world scene in recent years, in which he has published several essays of a semiological and musicological nature.

FOUNDER SEVERINO GAZZELLONI ACADEMY

Also in 1999 he founded the Severino Gazzelloni Academy, of which he was President for the entire duration of the experience, with the aim of organizing concerts and flute Master courses.

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF MUSIC EVENTS

With the Academy in the years 1999-2000 he organized and was artistic director of the musical events of the Superintendency for the artistic and historical heritage of the Municipality of Rome with concerts in the most important museums of the capital: National Museum of Palazzo Venezia - Museum of Palazzo Barberini - Museum of the Vittoriano - Museum of Musical Instruments.

FONDATORE VDM STUDIOS

Also in 1999 he founded VDM Studios in Rome for personal use. The studio was later used by numerous musicians and composers, quickly becoming a point of reference. In 2005 the studios were transformed into the independent record label VDM Records.

1990-1996

He completed his training as a flutist in masterclasses with Auréle Nicolet, Kerin Levine and Salvatore Lombardi.

CONCERTIST AND FOUNDER OF THE ALEANOVA GROUP

From 1996 to 2004 he intensified his concert activity, founding in 2002 together with Alessandro Sbordoni, Giovanni Guaccero, Paolo Marchettini, Daniele Del Monaco and Gianfranco Tedeschi the aleatoric music group AleaNova.
